Kaspersky Lab’s security solution for Android smartphones, Kaspersky Mobile Security, has secured first place in independent testing conducted by the reputable Chinese test lab PC Security Labs (PCSL). Evaluations of mobile security products by PCSL are notable for the inclusion of country-specific malware. Keeping track of mobile threats around the world is a complicated task, but in previous tests the Kaspersky Lab solution showed solid performance. The most recent August evaluation, the largest conducted by PCSL in terms of sample numbers, saw Kaspersky Mobile Security come out on top for the first time.
A total of 15 security products for Android mobile devices were assessed in testing. Their protection capabilities were pitted against a large collection of 1,836 samples of widespread malicious programs. An additional set of 8,000 legitimate programs were used to test the products for false positives. Kaspersky Lab’s solution successfully detected and blocked all threats except one – the best result in terms of protection – followed by another product that missed four malicious files. The average number of missed malware in the test was significantly higher, topping 130 files.
Out of 8,000 legitimate files only four were erroneously detected as malicious by Kaspersky Mobile Security, all belonging to a category of legitimate, but potentially dangerous applications that send sensitive user information to a remote server. The overall score for the Kaspersky Lab product was 99.95. Based on this score, Kaspersky Mobile Security was awarded a “Five Star” rating from PC Security Testing Lab.
Victor Dronov, Head of Mobile Products at Kaspersky Lab, commented: “Although the performance of Kaspersky Mobile Security has been overwhelmingly positive in recent independent tests by various reputable labs, the PCSL evaluation is extremely important to us because it shows our product is capable of detecting and blocking mobile threats in different countries of the world. The elaborate choice of malicious samples makes this test a tough one, and that’s why we’re very happy with the August results. It means we offer our customers the leading security solution, combining strong anti-malware protection, web protection, anti-theft and privacy features.”
