Phishing – a form of Internet fraud that uses fake websites to harvest user logins and passwords that are then used to steal money, or spread spam and malware via compromised emails, social networking accounts, etc. – is on the rise. According to the results of a recent survey by Kaspersky Lab, the number of Internet users who encountered phishing attacks over the last 12 months has grown from 19.9 million to 37.3 million, an increase of 87%.

The AV-Comparatives test assessed the anti-phishing protection offered by security products in a simulation that replicated typical web browsing conditions. The test, conducted on Windows 7 PCs, had two scenarios: one that checked for false alarms on 400 popular banking sites, and a second that assessed phishing URL detection rates. The URLs targeted various types of personal data, including login credentials for PayPal, online banking and credit cards, email accounts, eBay, social networks, online games and other online services.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 blocked 99% of the 187 phishing websites and none of the 400 legitimate URLs, taking first place and earning an Advanced + award.

“Phishing websites pose a real threat to users. About 20% of all phishing attacks mimic banks and other financial organizations and can result in the very real loss of money. That’s why we are constantly improving our anti-phishing technologies, and independent tests like this one demonstrate just how effective our work is,” said Nikolay Grebennikov, Chief Technology Officer, Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 is the company’s flagship product for home users and delivers premium PC protection from all Internet threats. Among the key features of the solution is advanced anti-phishing technology which ensures you are always safe when you bank, shop, surf, socialize, and more. In addition, Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 also includes unique Safe Money technology to provide protection during financial transactions; Parental Controls; Safe Social Networking and other features.

Kaspersky Internet Security regularly demonstrates its superior protection capabilities in independent testing. The Kaspersky Lab solution also received the highest Advanced + award for blocking 99.9% of 1,972 different threats during another AV-Comparatives test in August.
