Kaspersky Lab, an international data-security software developer, announces the successful completion of testing resulting in Kaspersky Anti-Virus receiving the international Checkmark certificate testifying to the product's high quality and reliability.
The Checkmark is a system which establishes a standard for software and hardware computer security products, tests them against that standard and then produces a certificate which shows that they meet the standard. Criteria for product quality and testing procedure is conducted by the independent testing lab of the West Coast Labs research center (www.check-mark.com), confirming the testing's professionalism and impartiality. Today, Checkmark is the de facto standard in many countries around the world, and is the essential certificate in the process of convincing anti-virus buyers to chose one product over another.
Anti-virus testing is conducted in three stages, with the program being assigned the relevant certificate for each level successfully passed. The first stage (Checkmark Level 1) verifies that an anti-virus is able to detect all viruses "in the wild." The virus list is maintained by the independent international organization "Wildlist" (www.wildlist.org) and includes only those viruses that have caused actual infections to occur on users' computers.
Successfully completing the second stage (Checkmark Level 2) confirms that the anti-virus is able to treat the viruses from the "Wildlist." This implies that the file contents and boot sectors are restored to their original operating capacity.
And finally, the third stage (Checkmark Trojan) is proof that the anti-virus is able to correctly detect all Trojan horses from the West Coast Labs collection including the most often encountered malicious programs of this type.
The testing process includes the checking of anti-virus scanners (on-demand scanners) and monitors (on-access scanners), and the functions must not raise any false alarms, meaning they must not falsely detect a malicious program in an clean object.
As a result of the tests conducted, Kaspersky Anti-Virus once again demonstrated its high quality and reliability by passing all the tests the first time without any errors, mistakes, or "misfirings." Today, Kaspersky Anti-Virus is one of the few anti-viruses the world over that is a holder of all the Checkmark certificates from all three categories.
