Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of content and threat management solutions providing protection against malware, hackers and spam, has announced the first test results of its new updated product Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. The new version of the program was tested by the reputable German independent research center AV-Test.org, and achieved excellent results in the tests on detection of malicious software, the healing of an infected system, and the blocking of current threats. AV-Test.org also recorded a near halving of the duration of a scan, a complete absence of false negatives, and a 100% success rate at detecting new threats.

The testing was conducted in conditions resembling as closely as possible those found in the real world: A representative set of current malware discovered up to three months before the test was used, including new, previously unknown threats. Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 was tested on a PC running the Windows XP operating system (32-bit, Service Pack 3) and also Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit versions, with Service Pack 1) with the settings of Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 set to the defaults. All protection systems were activated in the product so as to resemble its typical behavior on a user’s computer, including the ability to both update the antivirus database and query the Kaspersky Security Network cloud-based security system.

In the test on finding malware, the new Kaspersky Lab product found 109,977 out of the total 110,623 samples, that is - 99.4%. The average level for the industry is 98.5%. A 100% success rate was given for detection of the most dangerous menace to users - new (so-called “zero-day”) threats (of which 1752 samples in total were tested). A 100% result was also reached in the test on curing an infected system: Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 successfully deleted all 23 of the malicious programs from the test system.

In the test on deleting rootkits and deliberately hidden active (“stealth”) malware, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 removed 17 of the 18 tested samples (94.4%, while the industry average was 44.4%). The test on blocking new threats distributed via websites and email returned a result of 94.6% (the average - 80.5%). And when scanning more than 300 legitimate programs and files, not one was incorrectly indicated as harmful (i.e., a 100% success rate on false negatives).

The proved effectiveness of operation of the new version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 has been attained using hybrid protection - a combination of the cloud-based Kaspersky Security Network and heuristic technologies of detecting malware in the product itself. Such an approach means that new threats can be blocked and malicious software deleted - even in the most difficult cases. The experts at AV-Test.org also found that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 uses less system resources than other security solutions. At the same time, due to the use of new algorithms, scan speed has been increased by 90% compared with the previous version of the program.

Nikolai Grebennikov, Chief Technology Officer of Kaspersky Lab, said: “The results of the independent testing show that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 does excellently at both malware detection and treating infected systems. Our product effectively detects and neutralizes new, previously unknown, highly sophisticated and harmful threats – for example rootkits – all the while not permitting a single false negative.”

Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 was officially launched on June 7, 2011. To download the demo version of the product and/or purchase a licensed version, please visit the Kaspersky Lab website.
