Kaspersky Lab announces the world's first anti-virus integrated into ConsoleOne

Cambridge, UK, January 23, 2001 - Kaspersky Lab, an international data-security software-development company, announces the release of the Kaspersky® Anti-Virus beta-version for Novell NetWare powered by a new Java-based management system. The program also contains a set of unique features that significantly extend a user's ability for the centralized management of a network's anti-virus defense, thus decreasing attending expenses and making the product the world's most technically improved anti-virus system.

The main feature of the latest version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Novell NetWare distinguishing the product's leading position from amongst other anti-viruses available on the market is the full integration into the Novell's advanced management system - ConsoleOne. Based on Java technology, ConsoleOne enables network engineers to perform centralized deployment and control over the anti-virus defense of all the NetWare servers installed in the network, and, moreover, being easily performed from any computer (including remote) regardless of the operating system and processor type installed. Thanks to the deep integration into Novell Directory Service (NDS), the new Kaspersky Anti-Virus management system enables fast and effective real-time modification of all the product's settings, scheduling the product's operating mode, remotely starting different modules of Kaspersky Anti-Virus, etc.

Together with the management system based on integration into ConsoleOne, the announced version of Kaspersky Anti-virus for Novell NetWare also retains network control using NWAdmin.

Among the program's other new features is support for the automatic downloading of anti-virus database updates via the Internet, which prior to this was performed manually or with a help of a third-party event scheduler. Now the entire process is fully automated: in order to complete the updating procedure, one simply presses a single button or appropriately programs the built-in scheduler.

The updater is designed as an independent program module. This eliminates the necessity to reboot the server each time the anti-virus database is updated. Another of Updater's important features is the optimized structure of the update distribution across the network. Kaspersky Anti-Virus now downloads the updates from the Kaspersky Lab secured updates site just once, and then it simply distributes the updates to other NetWare servers within the network using the internal connection. This feature reduces the external traffic and decreases Internet-connection expenses.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Novell NetWare now supports multithreaded virus scanning. This feature allows for an unlimited amount of files being scanned simultaneously in real-time, with the amount being limited only by the server's hardware configuration. The multithreaded virus scanning essentially increases the overall efficiency of the entire network by parallel processing the requests from many workstations at the same time.

"In 1999, Kaspersky Lab was the first to develop an anti-virus system fully integrated into NDS and NWAdmin. The recent introduction of Kaspersky Anti-Virus featuring the integration into ConsoleOne confirms our intended course of providing users with comprehensive, cost-effective and centrally managed anti-virus defense, and makes the product one of the world's most technically advanced anti-viruses for Novell NetWare," said Denis Zenkin, Head of Corporate Communications for Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Lab encourages all concerned parties to join the Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Novell NetWare beta-testing team. If you are interested in becoming a beta-tester, please contact us at support@kaspersky.com.
