Kaspersky Lab, an international data-security software-development company, announces the release of the latest version of the popular KasperskyTM Anti-Virus for Unix/Linux operating systems.

The latest version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus affords customers the opportunity of additionally installing a centralized anti-virus defense for file servers and application servers operating on OpenBSD (version 2.8) and also for exim e-mail gateways (one of the five most popular e-mail gateways for Unix/Linux).

"Development of this anti-virus package came about as a result of responding to the needs of mid-size and large corporate customers using Unix, and particularly Linux. Today, Kaspersky Lab presents customers with the most advanced problem-solving solution embedded in the anti-virus scanning for the Unix/Linux platform. Currently, Kaspersky Anti-Virus can be utilized on Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD operating systems, and also contains a ready-made solution for integration into sendmail, qmail, postfix, and exim e-mail gateways. The package includes the scanner, daemon and monitor anti-virus technology, and also includes automatic anti-virus database updates via the Internet, an interactive parameter set-up shell and a module for generating and processing statistic reports.

In addition to supporting OpenBSD and Exim, the latest Kaspersky Anti-Virus version for Unix/Linux has other innovations, making the defense-process network even more reliable, effective and full-scale.

The most important addition increasing the program's reliability is the introduction of the multithreaded object-scanning technology allowing the anti-virus scanner to simultaneously check any amount of files, with the number of such sessions limited only by the server's capabilities. The amount of active sessions can easily be set in the start-up command line or in the Kaspersky Anti-virus configuration file.

In order to simplify development of the third-party applications when using Kaspersky Anti-Virus for performing an anti-virus scanning, the program has been powered by an advanced version of the API interface. A specialized library containing the procedures for interacting with the anti-virus daemon's protocol has been added to the package.

For the first time, the latest Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Unix/Linux has been equipped with a system for the remote control of the program for use with a Web interface through a secure HTTPS connection. This allows the system administrator to decrease the amount of time and means for managing the program significantly: The whole process can now be conducted completely remotely without the necessity of using a third-party utilities.

The anti-virus monitor contained in Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux has been significantly perfected. Unlike previous versions, the latest monitor intercepts file operations and transfers objects in real time for scanning by the anti-virus daemon without using a buffer directory with delayed scanning. In addition to this, monitor installment no longer requires the recompilation of the operating system's kernel and reboot of the active server.

Processing procedures have been improved to the level where the scanning speed of e-mail has been increased by almost 35%. Also, cycle functions for the scanning of a fixed directory can also be used for completing specific tasks, such as scanning the e-mail box contents. The statistics generating module is now able to generate statistics in real time and for a period indicated by a user.

In accordance with the latest product line introduced in April 2001, Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Unix/Linux is included in the Business Optimal and Corporate Suite packages. Kaspersky Anti-Virus users, unlike the users of competitors' products, are able to pick and pay for only those modules they need and not waste money on anything unnecessary. Also, the default package of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Unix/Linux servers now includes free support for 50 e-mail boxes.

All previously registered users of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Business Optimal and Corporate Suite can install the latest version for Unix/Linux free of charge.
