Updated corporate solution from Kaspersky Lab includes updated functions released for open beta testing
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions that protect against viruses, worms, Trojans, hacker attacks, spyware and spam, announces the release of Kaspersky® Anti-Virus 5.5 for Check Point Firewall-1 for open beta testing.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Check Point Firewall-1 provides antivirus scanning of files transferred using HTTP, FTP and SMTP protocols via Check Point Firewall-1. This solution is an essential component of any enterprise-level antivirus protection, since it ensures security at the entry point to the corporate network. Moreover, the new version of the product offers a range of updated and enhanced features for all key areas of the system.
The new version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Check Point Firewall-1 has been enhanced to make it much easier to use. Unlike its predecessor, protection of the corporate firewall is now managed using a simple and efficient control system that seamlessly integrates with the Microsoft Management Console, a standard Microsoft Windows utility. The new interface enables the administrator to start working with the system immediately, without having to configure it first. Administrators are also provided with a wide range of options, allowing them to configure the environment that is most appropriate for managing the application on their company network.
Another significant improvement in this new version of the program is the wider range of malicious programs that the antivirus solution can now combat. Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Check Point Firewall-1 can now block riskware, i.e., potentially hostile programs that remotely control the computer and monitor its activity. This was achieved by significantly extending the set of antivirus databases in the standard update process with signatures for potentially hostile programs.
Importantly, the performance of the solution has been greatly enhanced in the new version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Check Point Firewall-1. On systems with multiple processors, the program can now launch several copies of the antivirus engine to run simultaneously. This enables the program to take advantage of the distributed data processing implemented in such systems. Moreover, administrators can now manage queues of objects awaiting scanning, to give them more flexibility in regulating system load according to the volume of traffic that needs to be scanned. In addition, objects can now be scanned in RAM without using the disk subsystem, further boosting the application's performance.
The reporting system has also been much improved. The administrator can now configure the set of characteristics for producing event logs and the level of detail with which events are logged. In the new version, extended regular reports on the application's status can be created, either automatically or upon the administrator's demand. The reporting system provides a fast, convenient and unified means of accessing information using standard Microsoft tools, such as Internet Explorer. Reports can be sent to recipients via email.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Check Point Firewall-1 provides multi-tier antivirus protection for data transferred via Check Point Firewall-1through real-time antivirus scanning of HTTP and FTP data traffic, incoming and outgoing emails transferred using the SMTP protocol, as well as all email attachments. When processing HTTP and FTP traffic, all treated files are forwarded to their destinations to ensure that there is no disruption to the exchange of information. The program includes a variety of infected object processing features, including backup for objects before they are treated, deleted or blocked. Objects are saved in a dedicated storage folder, from which they can be restored, thus ruling out information loss. The effectiveness of the antivirus protection is maintained using a fully automated system to remotely update the antivirus databases.
