Kaspersky has unveiled early insights into the highly anticipated Security Analyst Summit (SAS) 2024, which will take place in Bali from October 22-25, 2024. This exclusive three-day event will bring together over 130 participants from 30 countries, including top cybersecurity researchers, law enforcement agencies, CERTs, and industry leaders from Palo Alto Networks, NSFOCUS, Cellebrite Labs and Positive Technologies will be represented. One of the key highlights will be the Capture the Flag (CTF) finals, with competitors vying for a grand prize of $18,000.
The conference agenda
is packed with exclusive research and threat discovery announcements, aiming to
foster knowledge exchange on the latest threat-hunting techniques and analysis
methods. The carefully curated program delves into the complexities of advanced
persistent threats, crimeware investigations, and modern challenges in threat
hunting, alongside discussions on sophisticated vulnerabilities in both
software and hardware.
Centered around the theme of space, the conference will
offer an in-depth exploration of space-related threats, highlighted by a
presentation from Maria Isabel Manjarez of Kaspersky’s GReAT, titled Threats in Space: The Dangerous Rise of GNSS
Attacks. A special spotlight will feature cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko,
named one of the world's 50 greatest leaders by Fortune, as he shares his personal experiences with
the challenges of space digitalization and the risks encountered during his
work in open space.
Another notable talk will come from Yuki Chen, recently
recognized by Microsoft's Researcher Recognition Program
as a Most Valuable Researcher (MVR). He has played a critical role in
protecting Microsoft customers by discovering and sharing vulnerabilities under
Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure. Chen will discuss experiences with
Microsoft's WIP bounty program, focusing on pre-authentication remote code
execution (RCE) attack scenarios. He will also reveal pre-auth RCE bugs
discovered in various Windows components, including DNS, LDAP, Remote FS, and
Network Load Balancing.
The
conference will offer detailed insights into the recent Grandoreiro campaign,
uncovered through a joint effort between cybersecurity experts and global law
enforcement. This campaign targeted 1,300 financial institutions across 45
countries. Speakers will discuss the law enforcement operation that led to the
group's arrest, the malware’s tactics, its international targets, and the vital
role that collaboration between the cybersecurity industry and law enforcement
plays in strengthening digital defenses worldwide.
‘We are proud to present an agenda that reflects the critical issues shaping cybersecurity today, with talks from leading experts across the globe. It’s a privilege to welcome such a remarkable lineup of speakers, and we believe this year’s summit will be an exceptional space for exchanging insights and strategies that will help fortify the digital landscape, all while maintaining the unique energy and spirit of SAS,” comments Igor Kuznetsov, director at Kaspersky’s Global Research and Analysis Team.
SAS 2024 will also host the finals of the international Capture The Flag (CTF) competition, offering an $18,000 prize. The May 2024 qualifier drew 846 teams from over 80 countries, with the top 8 advancing to compete in Bali.
