Eugene Kaspersky has become the first Russian to receive the Global IT Award from the President of the Republic of Armenia. The ceremony took place in Yerevan on 17 November 2015.
The main aim of the award is to raise Armenia’s profile in the international IT sphere and attract leading industry figures to conduct master classes and lectures and meet their Armenian colleagues. The award is presented annually to just one person who has made an outstanding contribution to humanity through IT.
"I congratulate you on this award. Your work is appreciated not only in Armenia but around the world. You and your colleagues are opening new doors for humanity while providing us with reliable protection. It is well known that very high demands are made of gifted people. I wish you further success in your work – it will give us great pleasure and pride to follow your achievements," President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan said at the ceremony.
The mandatory part of the award program includes the winner visiting Armenia to meet representatives of government bodies and students. Eugene Kaspersky participated in a number of official events, holding a press conference, meeting the student community in the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies and the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, and visiting the Armenian Genocide Museum.
After the gathering at the Presidential residence there was a ceremonial stamping of a postcard and an envelope dedicated to those who have been recognised by the President of the Republic of Armenia for their contribution to global IT.
Commenting on the award, Eugene Kaspersky said: "It gives me great pleasure to receive this prestigious award. I am proud to be on a list of laureates that includes true legends of the IT community. I would like to thank the selection panel for the award and for the opportunity to become more closely acquainted with the state of the industry in the country. The world is becoming increasingly digitized and computerized, and the value of information technology to the economy and public life is increasing accordingly. We will definitely continue to support Armenia’s initiatives to develop the IT sector."
Kaspersky Lab has been operating in Armenia for a number of years, including as part of a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of the Republic signed in 2009. The company organizes educational programs for schools and universities in Armenia and conducts training for administrators and IT specialists from governmental and commercial organizations. Government agencies also receive discounts on Kaspersky Lab licenses.

2009— Memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of Armenia is signed. Its main objective is to unite efforts in organizing infrastructure solutions for antivirus protection of the country’s governmental and educational information systems.

2013— Eugene Kaspersky receives an honorary doctorate degree from the State Engineering University of Armenia, the leading technical university in the country. Kaspersky Lab opens its educational center and certification center at the State Engineering University of Armenia.
2014— Yerevan hosts the Kaspersky Lab Partner Conference.
2015— Armen Karapetyan is appointed official representative of the company in the territory of Georgia and Armenia. He previously ran high-tech businesses in Armenia.
