As cybercrime continues to escalate globally, the task of safeguarding our digital world requires unprecedented collaboration between the private and public sectors. At Kaspersky, we are deeply committed to this cause, working alongside international law enforcement agencies to confront the increasingly sophisticated cyberthreats that endanger individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide. Our mission extends beyond providing advanced cybersecurity technologies; it includes dedication to building partnerships that enhance the global fight against cybercrime, ensuring a secure digital future for all.

Bridging the Gap: Public-Private Partnerships in Cybercrime Combat

The complexity of modern cybercrime necessitates a unified approach in which public and private sectors work in tandem. Cybersecurity companies bring vital expertise, tools, and innovative technologies, while law enforcement agencies have the authority and reach needed to disrupt criminal networks and prosecute offenders. This synergy forms a powerful alliance that strengthens global cybersecurity resilience.

Since 2014, Kaspersky has forged long-standing partnerships with prominent international bodies such as INTERPOL and EUROPOL, and most recently AFRIPOL, formalized through Memoranda of Understanding (MoU). These collaborations allow the company to share threat intelligence, provide technical support, and participate directly in cybercrime investigations. For example, Kaspersky is a key partner in the Singapore Police Force’s Alliance of Public-Private Cybercrime Stakeholders (APPACT) and a member of the Hong Kong Police Force’s Cyber Security Action Task Force (CSATF), reflecting our commitment to enhancing the cybersecurity capabilities of law enforcement agencies across regions.

Empowering Law Enforcement Through Expertise and Innovation

Kaspersky’s role in fighting cybercrime extends to empowering law enforcement agencies with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to tackle digital threats effectively. We provide specialized training programs that equip officers with advanced threat detection and forensic capabilities, bridging the critical skills gap that many agencies face. Our senior malware analysts frequently share the latest research findings, threat intelligence, and best practices with law enforcement professionals, significantly enhancing their ability to respond to and investigate cyber incidents.

One of our notable contributions is the development of decryption tools for ransomware victims. By collaborating with law enforcement, we’ve helped create solutions that allow affected users to recover their data without succumbing to ransom demands, directly countering one of the most pervasive forms of cybercrime. This collaborative approach not only disrupts criminal activities but also strengthens the overall digital resilience of our communities.

Real-World Impact: Tangible Outcomes from Global Collaborations

Kaspersky’s commitment to combating cybercrime has yielded significant, real-world impacts. Since its inception, our contributions have been instrumental in numerous global operations. One prominent example is the “No More Ransom” initiative, co-founded with EUROPOL, the Royal Netherlands Police, and other partners. This initiative has facilitated over 360,000 downloads of decryption tools, assisting nearly two million ransomware victims to recover their data without paying ransoms — a clear testament to the power of public-private cooperation.

In 2023, during INTERPOL's operation targeting cybercrime in Africa, Kaspersky’s threat intelligence played a pivotal role in identifying compromised infrastructure and apprehending cybercriminals across the region. This operation led to the arrest of 14 perpetrators and the disruption of networks responsible for over $40 million in economic losses, underscoring the critical role of shared intelligence and collaborative enforcement actions in reducing the global impact of cybercrime.

Building a Safer Cyber World: Kaspersky’s Ongoing Commitment

At Kaspersky, our vision is clear: to build a cyber-resilient world where technology can be trusted, and the digital landscape is secure. We are continuously expanding our cooperation with law enforcement agencies, broadening our reach and impact. From supporting operations in more than ten countries to sharing expertise in malware analysis, digital forensics, and financial threat research, our efforts are geared toward creating a more secure digital ecosystem.

The company’s efforts to proactively shape a safer digital future were praised at the World Internet Conference 2024 held in Wuzhen, China. This forum has become an important platform for promoting international exchange and cooperation in cyberspace since the event was first held in 2021. This year, Kaspersky’s collaboration with law enforcement agencies was recognized as an outstanding case and was included in the “Collection of Practice Cases of Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace” brochure.

Our work is far from over, and we invite others in the cybersecurity industry to join us in strengthening the digital defenses that protect our global community from the ever-present threats of cybercrime.
